WHO WE ARE
Terrain Mentorship Collective is a peer education and mentorship brand, co-led by Heather Cooan and Jen Harbour. We built it for one reason. Certification programs teach frameworks and protocols, but they don't really prepare you for what to do when a real person doesn't fit the templates you've been given, especially when that case involves cancer.
We lead as equals. Neither of us is the senior partner here. Together, we bring more than 20 years of hands-on experience supporting people with cancer, working alongside medical oncology, naturopathic, and metabolic oncology teams internationally.
We have both lived hard things, and you'll see that in our stories below. But that is not why you should trust what we teach. Trust the methodology, the cases we have worked on, and the partnership that built this.
The Physiology, the Data, and the Technical Depth
Heather is a double board-certified Oncology Nutrition Consultant, Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, and Nutrition Therapy Practitioner with a Master's in Business Administration. She trained directly under Dr. Nasha Winters, ND, FABNO, and Alison Gannett, and continues advanced training under Dr. Paul Anderson, NMD. She is also trained as an end-of-life doula through the International End-of-Life Doula Association. Her frameworks, Whole Terrain Systems Analysis™ and Deep Nourishment™, are original work built from first principles through her applied clinical experience, including the cases other practitioners won't take. She teaches from inside her own ongoing journey through vulvar cancer, Hashimoto's, lichen sclerosus, and Complex PTSD… refusing radiation, choosing surgery, and building a terrain-based path alongside it. Through Soil to Soul Nutrition™, she and her team provide bio-individual support for people navigating cancer, autoimmunity, and complex chronic illness, working in collaboration with each client's medical team. Before clinical work, Heather spent nearly two decades in digital and demand marketing and consulting for brands including Google, The Smithsonian, and Microsoft.
The Nervous System, the Emotional Load, and the Steadiness That Holds
Jen's path into this work began with her own breast cancer diagnosis. A Certified Medical Assistant who has worked alongside metabolically trained physicians on both coasts, she has served more than 500 clients worldwide. She holds certifications in Emotional Freedom Technique and Thought Field Therapy, trained in Autonomic Response Testing with Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt and in Internal Family Systems, and earned Level 1 Trauma Specialist certification through the Arizona Trauma Institute. She is a certified death doula who has volunteered in hospice care, and she holds a seat on the Fascia World Congress and co-authored the Metabolic Healing Kitchen. Before this work, Jen spent sixteen years as a sales and marketing executive, building partnerships with over 300 organizations representing more than $1 billion in business activity.
OUR APPROACH
We teach you how to think, not what to think.
Most practitioner training hands you a protocol and a template. Run the test, match the result to the plan, apply the plan. That works until it does not, and cancer is where it stops working fastest.
Here is how we actually work a case.
How We Work
We teach you how to think, not what to think.
No protocols. No templates. You learn to read the data, recognize the pattern, change inputs, and measure the outcome. The same rigor on a client, on yourself, on your practice.
Cancer-specific considerations run through every step, inside scope.
Step 01
Start From Scratch
Blank whiteboard, every client. No two terrains are alike. Protocol-matching robs a person of being seen.
Hover or tap each step
We work in service. To the person in front of us, to the physicians and medical professionals alongside us, and to the agency a cancer diagnosis tries to take. We educate for agency, self-efficacy, and empowerment.
Once you have this, you will notice it does not stay contained to client work. It is how you will need to work on yourself, and how you will need to build your practice too.

If you cannot diagnose, treat, or prescribe, and you want to work competently with this population within your scope of practice, this is built for you.
Some of you have no training in complex illness yet and are afraid of getting it wrong. Some of you finished a certification, know how to navigate terrain optimization for wellness, and still freeze the first time a real case does not fit the template. Both of you are exactly who we built this for.
WHO WE DO NOT SERVE
Terrain Mentorship Collective is not for practitioners who want to treat cancer, offer advice on alternative cancer treatments, campaign against the standard of care, or tell a client how to navigate their own diagnosis.
It is also not for practitioners unwilling to look at their own terrain. Walking into the dark with a client and sitting with them there requires a practitioner willing to go there for themselves. If you are not willing to do that work yourself, you will not be able to hold it for someone else.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
We are not aware of many programs that teach pattern recognition and principles rather than protocols and templates, given the specific complexity of oncology. Most functional and clinical trainings teach you to run a test and reach for a matching supplement stack. We teach you to read the physiology first and understand what makes it vulnerable before you touch an input.
Cancer changes the rules. It does not add a few symptoms to an otherwise ordinary client. It rewrites the terrain underneath everything you were trained to do.
The disease and its treatment reach into nearly every system at once.
- Immune function and inflammation.
- Coagulation and vascular integrity.
- Metabolism, muscle, and the body's ability to hold onto itself.
- Organ reserve in the tissues that filter, clear, and repair.
- The gut, the nervous system, sleep, and the endocrine signaling that governs them all.
These do not move in isolation. They move together, feed each other, and shift every time treatment changes.
Then there is everything the body is carrying that never shows up on a lab.
- Fear.
- Grief.
- The collapse of identity that arrives with a diagnosis.
- Financial strain.
- The weight of decisions no one feels ready to make.
- Mortality, sitting in the room.
For the person in front of you, that terrain is not separate from the physiology. It is the physiology. This is where well-intended support does harm. A botanical that interacts with a targeted therapy. A fast that strips lean mass from someone already wasting. A detox pushed onto a liver and kidneys already at their limit. Fatigue read as a mindset problem when it is anemia, or the disease itself. A red flag that belonged with the oncology team today, missed because no one recognized it. None of these come from bad intentions. They come from approaching a person with cancer the way you would anyone else.
Certified isn't the same as ready...
Your certification provided you with frameworks, protocols, and information on normal human physiology. It did not give you the judgment to hold a case this complex, physiology this deranged, evolving this fast, without causing harm, and to know in real time what belongs in your hands and what belongs with the medical team. That judgment is what we build.
We also start further back than most trainings do. Before we teach you to read a client, we ask you to look at yourself. Your own blind spots, your own nervous system, your own fear. Nothing strips a person's agency like a cancer diagnosis. An unexamined practitioner takes what little is left. A practitioner who has done their own work protects it.
Knowing this is not the same as doing it under pressure, which is why our membership exists. You bring live cases. You get parallel eyes. You build the pattern recognition that only comes from working real cases with other people watching your back. It is too complex and too heavy to carry alone.
OUR VALUES
We work in service. To the person in front of us, to the physicians and medical professionals we work alongside, and to the agency a cancer diagnosis tries to take.
We educate for agency, self-efficacy, and empowerment, in how we teach practitioners and in how we expect them to work with clients. We do not hand people orders to follow. We teach them how their own bodies and lives work, so they can decide for themselves, in partnership with the medical team overseeing their care.
We hold the same standard in how we do business. Marketing built on manipulation is not marketing we will teach. We built The Collective on what we actually believe, and we expect the practitioners we train to build their own practices the same way. Aligned clients find you when you stop performing and start meaning what you say.
